The latest innovation in chocolate, the latest creation from Omnom from Reykjavik:

Dark chocolate! With roasted barley malt and lava salt with (edible) charcoal.

We already wrote about the sense and nonsense of pink chocolate.

And say … give us ordinary dark chocolate. There is so much to discover. Fruity flavors, noticeable, and what not anymore.

This bar is darker than dark. Truly sooty black. But – believe it or not – in fact it is white chocolate – with additions.

We can also tell you that the chocolate is a fusion of craft chocolate & craft beer. That is how the bar came into being! Omnom had already thought of making a bar with cereals. Then they came together with a local craft brewery in Reykjavik where they also make their own chocolates and they came up with the use of roasted malt – which is of course also used in (dark) beers.

The ball started to roll, the development went on and the originally planned ‘normal’ chocolate eventually became a black chocolate. With the roasted malt from Germany, puffed grains from Móðir Jörð (Iceland) and then some ‘Lava salt’ from the western Fjords of Iceland. This salt with edible charcoal gives the chocolate its black color and gives the perfect balance against the sweetness.

A white chocolate that is black … If that is not unique? Anyway a chocolate to get you thinking. A statement. About the colors of chocolate. About natural and not so natural. About malt. About a fine imperial stout beer. And of course – you must forgive us – we think of black metal. Damned in Black from Immortal seems like a proper soundtrack for this bar.
