Description
We liked that. We had this week already a week inside, and today (November 18, 2018) this bar was voted the best chocolate in the world. That means – not only awarded with 3x gold at the International Chocolate Awards but also voted ‘Best in Competion. To score a medal in the world finals is quite a lot – gold is just one in every category. Best in Competion that is only one. Or actually two – milk and pure.
Anyway … that is just the story of this bar, and this will continue for a while – the crowning, the many praise.
We have long found Soma incredibly good. We only just tasted this bar – so our own taste notes follow again. Nice to be able to offer the bar already.
There is still a lot to say … about the Guasare cocoa – a criollo variety similar to the porcelana – about the Campo Experimental San Juan de Lagunillas where the research on cocoa was done. About the place where the cocoa came from this bar – on four cocoa farms – between bananas and coffee trees – near the place Rosario, west of the Maracaibo lake in North Venezuela.
Venezuela is a place where everything plays. It is nice that it is also a place and stays where incredible cocoa comes from.
Taste notes from the makers: cream, malt, cocoa, coffee, tamarind, fig.
Ingredients: cacao nibs, cane sugar, cocoa butter. (cane sugar and cocoa butter organic)
Allergy note from the makers: may contain traces of peanuts, nuts, soy and milk.
Made by Soma in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Awards: 3x gold and best in competition at the International Chocolate Awards 2018 world final .. Boy!
Note on the new batch (2019) by Soma: Last year’s batch was aged for 4 months this one is 1 month in (as of June 5th 2019) It is absolutely delicious now but we are predicting all the flavours to mellow and intermingle more at the 4 month mark. Regardless we are releasing it early so you can eat now or eat a bit and save piece by piece to see how the bar changes while aging.
