What a surprise – where most Zotter Handscooped chocolates are very sweet to super sweet, this is about something completely different. It is definitely also a filled chocolate (like a bonbon) but this time the chocolate layer is made with 100% cocoa (so no sugar) and the filling contains dates (33%) and cashew nuts (18%). No added sugar, although the dates naturally contain sugar and make it pleasantly sweet, as far as we’re concerned.
The dates do have a nice sweetness, but it is also definitely that characteristic (as far as we are concerned tasty) date taste that comes to the fore and certainly not too sweet. A very nice creation and nice to try if you do want to enjoy the filled chocolates from Zotter but the other ones are on the sweet side, or if you like dates, or if you just want to try something different.
Date & Cashew chocolate: Pure nut-cocoa energy
The makers say about it: “The pure fruit-nut-cocoa energy, completely alternative to sugar and vegan. The coating consists of 100% cocoa, with no added sugars, but the creation is generally sweet because there is a filling of sweet date fruits, with selected sweet dates that are very soft and melt soft, and a thin layer of finely melting cashew nougat, which is only sweetened with date syrup, i.e. the date juice.”
Ingredients: cocoa mass, dates, cashew nuts, date sugar, cocoa butter, date syrup, lime juice concentrate, soy lecithin, salt, vanilla powder, cinnamon.
Organic, vegan. 70 grams.
Allergy note from the makers: may contain traces of all types of nuts, peanuts, milk, egg and sesame.
Nutritional values: energy 485 kcal. Fat 32 grams of which saturated 18 grams. Carbohydrates 36 grams of which sugar 25 grams, protein 8 grams, salt 0.2 grams.
